River Song Appreciation Day!

Ok, I’m about three days late for posting this and be prepared, it’s about to get a tad nerdy up in this joint.

River Song is a character played by Alex Kingston on “Doctor Who”. Again, if you have never seen “Doctor Who” and are into the nerdy, space travel, british comedies then WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? Seriously, you need to GET ON THAT. Those of you who know of River Song and know me, know that I adore the hell out of that character/woman and is pretty much one of my goals in life to be as badass as she.

dcwhoomgFriday was the 5th Anniversary of River’s first appearance in “Silence in the Library”, an episode from season 4 with David Tennant and Catherine Tate as his “I’ll dish your sassiness right back to you” companion, Donna Noble (another favorite of mine!). Please be prepared if you watch this episode and it’s companion (ha, see what I did there?) because there are a lot of emotions. Seriously. Good luck with that.

Also, can we talk about the season finale?! Let’s talk about how I cried rivers of tears (ha, bah-dum-dum-psh!)… let’s talk about how I walked out into my living room and the conversation went like the following:

Dad: So, how was Doctor-

Anywho, I decided that since I couldn’t cosplay to work (even though it was casual Friday) and it would probably be highly inappropriate to walk around calling everyone “Sweetie”, or trying to use my sonic screwdriver when my stupid computer wouldn’t work (I actually have two: River and the 10th’s) and saying “Spoilers” anytime anyone asked me where one of my reports were (Seriously, I saw a very pink psychic paper in my future if I ever tried to pull this kind of shenanigan)… all of these under consideration, I decided to marathon River’s episodes and make a lovely decor piece in honor of our favorite woman with the funny name and the fantastic space hair.

Treasury Tuesday: Put a lid on it

Good Morning!

Today’s Treasury Tuesday holds a little place in my heart. Mason jars have made a huge comeback in the past few years as a key piece of decor or usage, especially within the crafting world. We know from past posts that I adore them, especially being from the country. Who knew there would be so many different ways to use them now besides preserving fruits and veggies!IMG_5513

Last Sunday at my cousins baby shower, my Mom’s cousin gave us all a special gift. She had found my Great-Grandmother’s old canning jars and gave us each one as a memento. How special is that?! She wrote up the whole history of the jars, some of the original blue Ball jars (which, I found out were blue due to a mineral they used in the sand) and some the Atlas jars with glass tops, and no one knew which jar they got until they opened their bag.

Upon opening my bag and reading the history of these fantastic jars and how long they had been with our family, I found that I got received one of the original Atlas jars with the glass and clasp lid. Knowing that this was once owned by my great-grandmother, someone I never had the pleasure to meet, made my heart swell. I love learning about my heritage and always know that my family has some great stories and history to share with us. Such an amazing and special gift Dolores gave us all. I can’t wait to be able to pass this down to my children and relay the story to them some day.

Dolores, thank you so much for the kind gift! And I promise–crossing my heart many times–that I will NEVER put glitter or deface that beautiful jar. 😉

Without further ado, here is this weeks treasury:

I can honestly say I’m not sure which item is my favorite out of this weeks treasury! Check it out!

Treasury Tuesday: Over The Rainbow

Guten Tag, Petals!

Happy Treasury Tuesday!

I’ve decided to share my favorite items on Etsy with you weekly!

This Tuesday, I bring you some of my favorite rainbow items from Etsy (and shameless plug, one is mine ;)) I don’t know about you, but rainbows just make me happy and “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz was the first song I tackled in private voice in college, so it holds a little special place in my heart.

I’m in extreme love with the wall clock by “ArtisEverything”, it is so cute and fun! Might have to make me one of those! The tutu by “ThreePrincessBows” has been on my favorite list for a while. I love the bright colors and curl of each tulle tuff, complete with the ribbon ends! All of these are fabulous! So be sure to check them out!

Till next time,

Happy December!

IMG_2789Can you believe it’s December already? It seems like the summer was just yesterday! I had intended to put up our new tree after our Thanksgiving feast, however, as you know I was down with the sickness. So we got to put it up yesterday! I have the scars to prove it! I only got as far as putting it together (wrong the first time, they don’t come with instructions anymore, just numbers… HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT?) and putting the ribbon around it before I called it quits for the night.

So today while watching “Christmas Vacation”, possibly my second favorite Christmas movie (after “White Christmas” of course)…

Ok wait. Before I go any further… WAS I THE ONLY ONE NOT AWARE OF THIS?

No, seriously, I feel like a super idiot for not knowing about this.

Anyway, I decided to add ornaments while watching this fabulous piece of american artwork and entertainment. I took a few pics of all the homemade ornaments I made this past year:

These are my favorite as was something my great aunt used to make, we had a blast making these last year.

A new one 🙂

Another new one: stained glass purple, dipped in mod podge and then glitter.

Well, it’s bed time for me! I went back to work today and so glad to be back! I was getting a little bit of cabin fever at home once I realized I had been stuck in the house for five days straight, so I was happy to be back in my home away from home.

I’m DYING to share our last “Craft and Wine Night”! It was a blast and we went to town! Hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday for that one!

Ok, lets get real for a moment. Sandy has officially made landfall just above the Maryland and Delaware shores in southern New Jersey. She has been beating my area with heavy winds and rain thus far and has been completely destroying shore landmarks along our coast. It’s been quite a crazy day and we are super lucky to still have power here inland! *KNOCK ON WOOD* All is still good in my area, except for one thing:

My sanity.

My thought process was to not go out into the craze after Friday night due to all the crazy people doing their last minute preparation. It’s now been three whole days that I have literally been in pajamas (I have changed and showered, I swear), watching ghost movies and shows on Netflix, and crafting. I’m getting the worse case of cabin fever you have ever heard. I literally have gone nuts… literally. I have stormed around the house for about 20 minutes complaining about our lack of kettle cooked barbeque chips and the fact that my mother brought home apple dumplings instead… I dislike dumplings… which thus led me to more distress.

I’m not one to be cooped up for long periods of time… and now my house has started to shake from such high winds. Good lord, lets hope my room, which happens to sit under some very large trees, makes it through the night!

To try and distract myself from my lack of escape (Maryland has literally forbidden us from driving… like at all) I decided to do a best methods post!

To say I have a ton of glass ornaments is an understatement. I blame Michaels for having all these deals where they are concerned and if you haven’t been taking advantage of the 25% off ornaments yet, you are a nutter and should go do so immediately. But now having done a fare share of glitter ornament, I have decided to share my favorite way of decorating them!
