River Song Appreciation Day!

Ok, I’m about three days late for posting this and be prepared, it’s about to get a tad nerdy up in this joint.

River Song is a character played by Alex Kingston on “Doctor Who”. Again, if you have never seen “Doctor Who” and are into the nerdy, space travel, british comedies then WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? Seriously, you need to GET ON THAT. Those of you who know of River Song and know me, know that I adore the hell out of that character/woman and is pretty much one of my goals in life to be as badass as she.

dcwhoomgFriday was the 5th Anniversary of River’s first appearance in “Silence in the Library”, an episode from season 4 with David Tennant and Catherine Tate as his “I’ll dish your sassiness right back to you” companion, Donna Noble (another favorite of mine!). Please be prepared if you watch this episode and it’s companion (ha, see what I did there?) because there are a lot of emotions. Seriously. Good luck with that.

Also, can we talk about the season finale?! Let’s talk about how I cried rivers of tears (ha, bah-dum-dum-psh!)… let’s talk about how I walked out into my living room and the conversation went like the following:

Dad: So, how was Doctor-

Anywho, I decided that since I couldn’t cosplay to work (even though it was casual Friday) and it would probably be highly inappropriate to walk around calling everyone “Sweetie”, or trying to use my sonic screwdriver when my stupid computer wouldn’t work (I actually haveĀ two: River and the 10th’s) and saying “Spoilers” anytime anyone asked me where one of my reports wereĀ (Seriously, I saw a very pink psychic paper in my future if I ever tried to pull this kind of shenanigan)… all of these under consideration, I decided to marathon River’s episodes and make a lovely decor piece in honor of our favorite woman with the funny name and the fantastic space hair.

DIY: Family Canvas Wall Decor

Happy Wednesday!

I’ve been a blogging slacker for the past few weeks. A few weeks ago I took a “staycation” and decided I was going to focus on me, myself and I. Unfortunately, the social media blogetteĀ side of me also went on holiday and thus, the updates having been occurring regularly: including “Treasury Tuesday”, etc.

So, I missed Mother’s Day a few weeks ago. But I hope you all had a GREAT Mother’s Day and enjoyed it with your kids, mothers, wives, sisters, etc. After taking my nephew to get his driver’s licenseĀ that Friday, we all went out for celebratory froyo. My 5-year-old niece turned to my sister and said “Happy Mothers Day Mom!” and then turned to me and said “Happy Mothers Day Heather!” While I have not physically had children myself, I feel very protective and maternal towards my niece and nephew as well as our pup and all of my little craft projects. So I smiled really big and said “Thanks darlin!”

For my mother, I made a wall decoration that we’ve placed in the kitchen. It has one of my favorite quotes, that I think sums up our family pretty accurately. As she gave me my Cricut for my birthday, I wanted to use it to make her something she could see everyday as a reminder of:

  1. What an awesome daughter I am šŸ˜‰
  2. What a great family we are

We really are and it’s not to say that we haven’t had our ups and downs (and sometimes disownments) but that’s what makes our family so ridiculous and amazing. No matter the hardships, we’ve all stuck together.

It’s true.

DIY: Baked Mozzarella Sticks

Hello dears!

It has been some time, thank you for the kind emails and comments of well wishes after the accident! Very blessed by all of you!

Business started booming last week on my Etsy shop! And on top of that, a lot of things are happening in my personal life! We have a baby shower coming up for my cousin next weekend and I can’t wait to share with you all that we’ve done behind the scene for it! Look out for a full post on that next week!

I know I’m not the first person who thought this was a brilliant idea, but as I couldn’t find the webpage where I saw it originally, I thought I’d give it a whirl and see if I could recreate it with just my own thought and creativity. So I share with you my trials and errors of making your own Baked mozzarella Sticks. (Clarification: this is not an original idea by me, simply sharing how I did with following what I remembered in my head and how it worked or didn’t… think of this as a sort of pin-buster).

Treasury Tuesday: Tweet, tweet!

Top of the mornin’!

I have two different crafts I’ve been meaning to post about, one was from Easter, which, is rather moot now. šŸ˜¦ Unfortunately, other than making shirts for my Etsy shop, I haven’t had much energy to do much anything else. On Thursday night I was in my first auto accident. First off, other than a minor concussion and normal impact aches, I’m ok! My car on the other hand, is not. I’m very lucky that she can be repaired, however, am without my baby for another two weeks… and anyone who knows me personally knows how hard this is for me to be away from her! I definitely treat her as my child, minus Thursday when she got hurt.

The irony of the situation (to me) is that I work for an organization that specializes in treating, educating and studying traumatic brain injuries (TBI). If you were not aware, a concussion is a type of mild TBI and the month of March was Brain Injury Awareness Month. I could have very well been the poster child for the day. My supervisor and boss both urged me to seek medical attention following the accident, of which, I refused initially. I was seen by the paramedics at the sceneĀ but didn’t want to go to the hospital to be checked out. It was very dumb of me, I know I shouldn’t have done that. At the time all I could think about was my car, money, whether or not the other driver was alright and just wanting to numb everything that was happening. I didn’t think about my own health and safety really, which, please, please, please go and get checked out right away after any sort of accident or situation in which you have hit your head or think you might have sustained a head injury.Ā It doesn’t have to be from impacting an object and each head injury is different and can manifest in different ways… this is something I’m very aware to, but ignored in my own experience and situation. Luckily, I did go and get checked out the following day in Urgent Care and was relieved to find there was no skull fractures or internal bleeding. They also checked my neck and again, just normal bruising, aches and pains from impact and the force of hitting the window. I’m very lucky, but not everyone is.

Ok, now I shall get off my soap box and share with you my favorite finds of this past week!

Treasury Tuesday: Tweet, Tweet

This treasury reminds me a lot of one of my coworkers who is getting married in a few months and has a slight bird theme to the wedding and such. As a yarn lover, I love the yarn bowl by SKPottery! I’m always looking for different ideas of storing my yarn when I’m working. Another is the window bird house by IfWoodCould… I’ve always wanted one where I can sit and watch the birds inside. I also adore the teal/turquoise bird pillow (by joom), gorgeous color, and the bird flying away from the cage necklace by DevinMichaels.

Go check out these great bird finds!
